Ted Collier, co-owner of Katie’s Pizza & Pasta Osteria, has a thing for doughnuts.
The restaurateur/artist doesn’t make them — he paints them — and with such style that they’ve become his trademark. He calls them circles.
“Circles are everywhere in nature and in objects built by man,” Collier told the Business Journal in his St. Louis Character profile published in the Oct. 23 issue. “People love the circles look.”
So much so that Collier has trouble keeping them in stock.
Collier, who said his work is influenced by Gerhard Richter, uses a door sweep or squeegee to put the paint on the palette and then does the detail work with brushes.
